Recall (“Recall,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a vocabulary learning app that helps you create, store, review, and practice vocabulary using spaced repetition, AI-assisted features (including extracting vocabulary from photos you provide), notifications, and optional cloud sync.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how it is shared, and how you can manage or delete it.
If you use image import, AI example generation, AI grading, or the Studio features, we may process:
When you import from a photo, the image is sent to our server, which forwards it to a third-party AI provider that reads the image and extracts structured vocabulary entries. Other AI features similarly send the text or answers you provide to generate examples, explanations, or grading. This processing happens on our servers and our AI providers — not on your device.
If you purchase a subscription, Apple processes your payment. We receive and store limited transaction data:
We do not receive your full payment card number from Apple.
If you enable notifications, we process your notification preferences and locally scheduled review reminders. Recall’s reminders are scheduled on-device.
We may process basic app-version and error information needed to operate the app and diagnose problems. Recall does not use third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.
AI features send the images, text, answers, or related context you provide to Recall’s server and our third-party AI providers to extract vocabulary from photos, generate examples, or grade answers. We use this information only to provide the requested functionality, subject to this Policy and applicable provider terms. Please do not upload content you do not have the right to use or that contains unnecessary sensitive personal information.

These providers process information on our behalf to provide app functionality, security, billing support, or AI features.
Purchases and subscriptions are billed through the Apple App Store. Apple handles payment processing, refunds, and billing account management. We receive limited transaction and subscription status information needed to unlock paid features and manage entitlements.
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it with data brokers or advertising networks. We may share information with the service providers above, with Apple for billing and subscription handling, where required by law, to protect the rights and safety of Recall and its users, or in connection with a business transfer subject to appropriate protections.
We retain account and learning data while your account is active or as needed to provide Recall. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize personal information associated with it, except for limited records we are required or permitted to retain for legal, security, fraud-prevention, tax, accounting, dispute, or App Store transaction purposes. Data removed from active systems may remain in encrypted backups for a limited period until those backups are overwritten in the normal backup cycle.
You can delete your account in the app at Settings › Account › Delete Account. See our Account & Data Deletion page for details. Deleting your Recall account does not automatically cancel your App Store subscription — manage or cancel that in your App Store account settings.
Recall is not directed to children under the age required by applicable law to use online services without parental consent. If we learn we have collected such information without required consent, we will take steps to delete it.
Your information may be processed in countries other than your country of residence. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
